Ladies and Gentlemen.
I thought I had haters but this woman makes me seem as loved as fricking Hello Kitty. Dutch artist Tinkebell has been creating controversy through her art all the way from Amsterdam to Shanghai and Guinea-Bissau. She’s pissed people off so much, she’s even inspired a change.org petition against her.
Currently, her projects focus on a theme of “SAVING THE WORLD.” She last saved a dog in Gambia, Turtles in Shanghai and a Guinea-Bissau family from a life without IKEA. And now, Tinkebell is here and she’s taken to Manila like many of us never have. Decidedly staying in Santa Cruz at the Grand Opera on Rizal Avenue, Tinkebell made it a point to see Manila’s real side. She’s now more familiar with the grittier side better than many of us mall rodent Manileños ever have.
Oh. Yes. I did say Rizal Avenue.
And after walking all the way around Divisoria, Chinatown, Tondo, and Manila’s grittier areas in the rain, the always coiffed and polished Tinkebell has finally figured out how to contribute to our society and well, “save” someone.
She has decided to rescue two ladies named Mitch and Cyris from a life in the red light. These two ladies that she met on Burgos Street will now be the focus of her oeuvre. So that Mitch and Cyris may live a life with their clothes on, Tinkebell has decided to take her clothes off in return.
Tinkebell will do a calendar of herself in the nude and all proceeds and sales of these two calendars will be sent directly to Mitch and Cyris. You can buy photos as well and even - for 1000 Euros, have her pose in ANY position you request.
Controversy aside, I do have to say, that this is really… interesting. What do you think?
