ThrowbackThursday. 1992. “Bar Sins”- a comic strip I did for The Manila Chronicle. Heavily inspired by Doonesbury, Bloom County, and Jules Pfieffer, Bar Sins was based in a bar where English speaking Filipinos would drunkenly discuss social issues. The bar was owned by a bunch of 12 year olds who loosely based on my own family. I was 15 when I started this comic strip.
Dear @Pontifex - Would it be OK if we um…art direct mass a bit? It truly is one of the world’s longest running theatrical traditions and we could well, “level it up”. I mean, aside from painting murals all over the walls, wouldn’t it be awesome if we also had mood music behind the voice during homily? Or light and music cues changing as the bells ring during the consecration, coloured spotlights on the lecterns, or even perhaps video projections of clouds on the ceiling as people walk towards the altar for communion. If God gave humans the gift of visual arts, music and theatre, wouldn’t it be right if we use it this way? Just wondering. That’s all. Yours. Carlos
